South Africa: Tricky Trip for Benni

5 January 2009

Bafana Bafana striker Benni McCarthy could be up against a fellow South African when his Blackburn Rovers side face non-League Blyth Spartans in the FA Cup tonight.

Spartans' defender Andrew Leeson will be hoping to put one over his national captain as Rovers face a tricky trip to the English Conference North side, who are five divisions below the Premiership.

The 26-year-old amateur footballer, who is an electrical engineer by trade, is a stalwart with the club, having made over 250 appearances for the first team.

He was a junior on the books of English Championship Burnley before joining Spartans in 2003.
