Kano — ON the heels of a pre-emptive attack on the Kano Sector of the Federal Road Safety Commission last Wednesday (December 31, 2008), Road Marshals in Kano have resolved to persuade the motorcyclists on the use of safety helmets ahead of a new January 8th enforcement deadline in the city.

The turn of event was sequel to 'comprehensive review' of the last week assault by Okada riders on the Federal Road Safety Commission headquarters in Kano and the overall implication on peace in the state capital. Okada riders attacked the state headquarters of the Federal Road Safety Commission in Kano on New year eve, protesting the anticipated enforcement of use of safety helmets.

The FRSC offices located along Lawan Danbazau links, off Zaria Road was invaded by the motorcyclists. They hauled stones and other missiles at the building, sending the defenceless personnel of the para-military force scampering for safety.

In the ensuing melee, an unspecified number of road marshals were said to have sustained scalp and body injuries before a detachment of armed policemen took control of the situation.
