The 12-member transitional team of the president-elect, Professor John Evans Atta Mills, began work yesterday at the Accra International Conference Centre. However, there is no intention of retaining any minister of the outgoing government.

The team has Mr. Paul Victor Obeng as Chairman, Mr. Alex Segbefia as Secretary, and Ms. Hannah Tetteh as Spokesperson.

Statements issued in Accra over the weekend, and signed by Hannah Tetteh, also said nine sub committees and their respective leaders had been established to assist the transitional team.

They include Mr. Victor Gbeho - Chairman, Inauguration Sub-Committee, Dr. Don Arthur - Chairman, Sub-Committee on Transfer of Executives Assets, Togbe Afede Asor XIV - Chairman, Sub-Committee on the Economy, Brigadier Joseph Nunoo-Mensah - Chairman, National Security Sub-Committee, Alhaji Mohamed Mumuni - Chairman, Sub-Committee on Governance,

The rest are Mr. Ekwow Spio-Garbrah - Chairman, Social Sector Sub-Committee, Mrs. Betty Mould-Idrissu - Chairman, Sub-Committee on Legal Matters, Mr. Kwame Peprah - Chairman, Sub-Committee on Energy and Alhaji Mahama Idrissu - Chairman, Nominations Sub-Committee.

According to the statement, the team would work with the outgoing NPP Government to ensure the effective handing over of the national administration, from the Kufuor Administration to the Atta Mills Administration.

It would also advise on the nomination of persons to hold office in the new government.

Dilating on the press statement, Ms Tetteh told The Chronicle that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government had not thought of retaining any of the ministers from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in their all-inclusive government.

She stated that the NDC could talk about governance, only after a successful takeover.

"For now, before we talk about governance, we have to take over before we talk about the things that are our priorities, which have already been detailed in our manifesto; the taking over of the state machinery is our number one priority," she stressed.

Responding to questions on how petroleum products would be priced, Ms Tetteh indicated that Prof. Mills had not been specific with fuel prices, however, there would definitely be price reductions.

"Prof did not give commitments as to figures; he did talk about a reduction and a further reduction, but he didn't give specific figures," she maintained.

Quizzed whether the NDC had thought of releasing the incarcerated former Chief Executive of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation, Mr. Tsatsu Tsikata, she said the family of Mr. Tsikata did not want a presidential pardon, but rather wanted the case to be settled by the courts.

According to her, the reason was that they believed that Tsatsu was innocent, and as such he should be acquitted and discharged by the courts.
