Nigeria: Niger to Build New Health Centres

Niger state government is to embark on construction of more primary health care centres in various communities across the 25 local government of the state.

The State Commissioner of Health, Dr. Isa Yahaya Vatsa, who disclosed to Daily Trust over the weekend, said the expansion of comprehensive health centres in various communities of the state will enhance the people to have easy access to health care service delivery.

He said the state is also building three modern hospitals at the three senatorial district of the state, which include Nasko, Sabon -Wuse and Gulu, saying the three hospital will be equipped with modern equipments that can provide diagnosis and treatment services for all common disease in the country.

He said provision of heath care service delivery is one of the top priorities of the state government, in which its people can feel the impact of dividend of democracy, adding that having easy access to health centres could reduce emergency cases that sometimes result to death do to distance such patients covers from a community before arriving the hospital. " The state government is making effort in ensuring that health care services is within the reach of the common man in the state, as each local government is building a comprehensive health centres and renovation of the dilapidated ones" he said.

Dr. Vatsa stated that since the assumption of the present administration in office, the state had witnessed progress on child immunization through the support of parents, district heads, and traditional rulers and Non Governmental Organizations.

He said due to constant public enlightment campaign, most parents had formed a member team that goes about advocating for child immunization, which he said people are now demanding as a right for their child to be immunized.

He however said that the state government target was to build on existing structures that can be able to place and bring in some innovations in reaching out to its people particularly, the less privileged ones in the state.

Dr. Vatsa sited example of Jama,a Forum, which he said was an innovative approach by the State Governor Dr. Muazu Babangida Aliyu, in reaching out to the people of the state and interact with them to know what their problems. " Through the Jama,a Forum we have been able to understand the problems of the people, and of course most of the activities are demand base. When people ask for something they are likely to maintain and support it that is the all idea" he said.
