Harare — GOVERNMENT has gazetted this year's application and registration fees for local and foreign journalists and mass media services.
The announcement was made in accordance with section 91 of the Access to Information and Protection of Privacy Act.
According to the regulations, a mass media service would have to pay $10 billion and $30 billion as application and registration fees respectively, while it now costs $20 billion for renewal of registration.
A news agency would have to pay $5 billion and $20 billion as application and registration fees respectively while renewal of registration would cost $10 billion.
Zimbabwean journalists working for local media would have to pay $1 million as application fee while the accreditation fee has been pegged at $3 million.
A local freelance journalist would have to pay $1,5 million as application fee.
The penalty for late renewal of accreditation would be $100 000 per day while the penalty for late renewal for registration has been pegged at $500 000 per day.
The fee to be charged for a lost card would be determined by the Media and Information Commission.
The application fee for a local journalist working for a foreign media organisation has been pegged at US$1 000 with the accreditation fee set at US$3 000.
Temporary accreditation for a foreign journalist has been pegged at US$500 while they would have to submit US$1 000 as accreditation fee.
The complimentary accreditation administration fee for those from within the Sadc region has been set at US$150 while those from outside Sadc will have to pay US$200.
The application fee for permission to operate a representative office of a foreign mass media service or a news agency has been fixed at US$10 000 while they would have to pay US$20 000 as the fee for permission to operate, with the complimentary permit administration fee pegged at US$2 000.
