Eritrea: Ninth Eritrea Festival in Australia and New Zealand Opens

Asmara — The 9th Eritrea Festival in Australia and New Zealand opened in Melbourne City on January 2. The Chairperson of the National Union of Eritrean Women (NUEW), Ms. Leul Gebreab, opened the Festival.

In the festival in which Eritrean nationals from different parts of Australia and New Zealand, as well as Australian friends of Eritrea took part, the Eritrean Ambassador to Australia and New Zealand, Dr. Andeab Gebremeskel, gave briefings on the nation's promising future as a result of the ongoing coordinated and vigorous endeavors.

The chairman of the holidays coordinating committee in the two countries, Mr. Woldensie Negasi, on his part stressed the significance of holding such festivals in bequeathing the country's cherished values to the young generation and enhancing participation in national affairs.

Also in a seminar she conducted to participants of the festival on the objective situation in the Homeland, Ms. Leul outlined the major development achievements so far registered through the coordinated endeavors of the people, members of the Defense Force and all government institutions. She particularly made mention of the encouraging accomplishments scored in the domains of construction, agriculture and infrastructure.

Various programs, including sports competition, cultural shows and arts exhibition, among others were featured in the course of the Festival. The Salina Cultural Troupe from Asmara also staged musical performances, thus adding color to the event.
