Nigeria: Uneasy Calm Returns to Ado Ekiti

Uneasy calm yesterday returned to both Ado-Ekiti Central and Odo Ado in Ekiti State where violent protest was recorded on Sunday following the assassination of Mr. Kehinde Fasubaa, the twin brother of the former chairman of Ado Ekiti Local Government Council in the state.

Security operatives consisting of armed anti-riot policemen, conventional policemen and officers, including men and officers of the State Security Service were stationed in strategic places to abort any protest.

Workers went to their various sources of livelihood under fear and anxiety it was learnt yesterday.

The bonfires that were made on major road on Sunday by the angry mob have been cleared yesterday by the police making it easy for vehicles to move freely.

Odo-Ado community, the scene of the gory incident and which was the area of the deceased was like a ghost town and the residents of the area wore mournful looks.

Nobody was willing to comment on the dastard murder of Kehinde Fasubaa who was said to be warming up to contest for the Senatorial seat of the area come 2011.

Although police said the situation has been put under control, no officer was willing to confirm or deny the number of people arrested or invited over the incident.

Mr. Mike Akindipe, the State Police Public Relations Officer said that the incident was under investigation. Governor Segun Oni who has paid a condolence visit to the family of the deceased pleaded for calm from all people of the state assuring that Police would be made to go into the root of the matter and bring the perpetrators of the murderous act to book.

Until his assassination late Kehinde Fasuba was the General Manager Finance and Administration of the PHCN, Northern Operations and was planning his retirement for next year to enable him contest for a seat in the Upper House of the National Assembly.

It would be recalled that his twin brother, Taye Fasubaa escaped death by the whiskers in the state when he was the Chairman of Ado-Ekiti Local Government Council.
