Jos — The eight-member adhoc committee of the House of Representatives on the Jos mayhem commenced its public sitting in Jos, the Plateau state capital, yesterday with an appeal to all the major stakeholders in the Jos North conflict to give the committee the maximum co-operation within the six days of its sitting.

Chairman of the Committee, Hon Isa Idris, who made this appeal at the HBC Resort Centre in Jos South told newsmen that the choice of Jos South Local government area as venue for the sitting is to give all parties to the conflict a neutral ground to make their submissions.

According to Idris, the committee is expected within the six days to interact with stakeholders and members of the state House of Assembly, assuring Plateau Conference of Youth Movements and others who have expressed fears about the sincerity of the committee members to be rest assured that the Committee is made up of law makers of proven integrity. He added that his Committee is expected to receive written memoranda in Jos till Saturday after which it will return to Abuja to continue with the assignment till January 20 when the final report and recommendations will be compiled and submitted to the House.

This is coming as the military authorities re-acted to publications in the media last Saturday that some of the 26 arrested suspected mercenaries were in military uniforms.

In a rejoinder yesterday to all the major newspapers in Jos, Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 3 Armoured Division, Jos Col. Adebayo Dabiri said that none of the items found on the arrested hoodlums on that day belonged to the army.

The armed gang arrested on Thursday night were paraded before the media on Friday by the Police after they had been handed over to them by the Commander of Operations, Lt. Col. Ufoma Macaulay, who is also the Garrison Commander of the Division.
