Nigeria's telecommunications giant and title sponsor of the Lagos International Half Marathon, Globacom, has announced that the Corporate Fun Run will be bigger, better organised and controlled than previous editions.
A statement signed by Globacom's Head, Sponsored Assets, Mrs. Modele Sarafa-Yusuf, said the next edition of the Corporate Fun Run, which holds on February 14, 2009, a week before the half marathon, is designed solely for management cadre personnel.
"We have perfected plans and secured facilities for the utmost comfort and entertainment of the corporate runners," the statement said.
The Fun Run, according to Sarafa-Yusuf, will offer much more than just running: it will provide opportunities for fun, health improvement, networking and bonding. She said as the race holds on St. Valentine's Day, there will also be special programmes and gifts for couples.
With the theme of this year's event being 'Run For The Heart', this edition of the Corporate Fun Run is designed to call attention to the care of the heart and raise money for the Nigerian Heart Foundation in support of its campaigns.
The race is being promoted as a heart-healthy exercise capable of ridding the body of life-threatening cholesterol. At the start and finish point, there will be free BP checks, sugar, protein tests; massage centres, energy-refill centres and aerobics.
"A lively and electrifying atmosphere will be provided to entertain runners, families and their friends. We are providing many fun spots for relaxation and networking opportunities with other high net worth individuals and celebrities. Child minders will also be available to care for children while their parents participate in the Fun Run. The Corporate Fun Run is designed to be richly enjoyed, and we hope it will leave positive memories in the minds of all participants from Corporate Nigeria," Sarafa-Yusuf explained.
2,000 runners from about 400 companies are expected to participate in the event, which will run through a five-kilometre course: from Akin Adesola junction, through Adeola Odeku and Ahmadu Bello Way to terminate at Oceanview Restaurant on Adetokunbo Ademola Street all on Victoria Island, Lagos.
The prizes to be given out include N1million for the winning team. The first runner-up team will receive N750,000, the third team will receive N500,000, the fourth team gets N250,000, and the fifth N100,000. The first 10 individual runners will each receive a Blackberry device with N100,000 free airtime.
