Nigeria: Reps AD-Hoc Committee Begins Public Hearing in Jos

Jos — Eight-man House of Representatives adhoc committee on the Jos North crisis has commenced its public sitting in Jos, the Plateau State capital yesterday with an appeal to all the major stakeholders in the Jos North conflict to give them their maximum co-operation within the 6 days of its public sitting in Jos.

The Chairman of the 8-man committee, Hon Isah Idris, who made this appeal at Hotel HBC Resort in Jos South local government council, told newsmen that the choice of Jos South local government area as their public sitting venue is to give all parties in the conflict a neutral ground to make their submissions to the committee.

He said they are expected within the 6 days to interact with stakeholders and members of the House of Assembly, assuring Plateau conference of Youth movements and others who have expressed fears about the sincerity of the committee members to be rest assured that the 8-man committee of the House of Representatives are lawmakers of proven integrity.

According to Hon Idris, his committee is expected to receive written memorandas in Jos till Saturday after which they will return back to Abuja to continue with their assignment till January 20 before the final report and recommendations of the adhoc committee will be compiled and submitted to the House.

Commenting on the location of the public sitting of the members, about 20 kilos away from Jos city center, Hon Idris said they took the decision purely on security grounds, but added that after meeting with the stakeholders, if there is still need to relocate it to Jos Tin-city for the purpose of easy access to the venue of the sitting, they would not hesitate to do so.
