Edo State government in collaboration with the Centre for Islamic Studies, Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto is hosting the 23rd edition of Qur'anic Recitation Competition slated for 9 - 13th January, 2009 at the Sports Pavilion, Auchi Polytechnic, Auchi, Edo State.

In a release signed by an Islamic scholar and Benin based journalist, Alhaji Usman Abudah and made available to Vanguard weekend in Benin, stated that the essence of the competition is to promote religions tolerance and create a forum for Islamic students of all ages with participants drawn from the 36 states of the federation including Abuja .

"This unifying format of exposing the Nigerian youths to the geographical sceneries outside their home base will also create inter state relationship devoid of artificial barriers, embellished in religious uprightness as enshrined in the hadith of the holy Quran", Alhaji Abudah noted.

In addition, the statement said the competition will equally create room for participants to demonstrate their practical knowledge of the Muslim holy book in ranges and chapters between one and 60, engage the youths in realistic and spiritual pursuits as well as opportunities for excellence to pursue both western and Islamic education in and outside Nigeria .

Alhaji Abuda therefore challenged the youths to avail themselves to this well meaning and self developing opportunity that would mould their character, make them responsible citizens with the fear of Allah and respect for constituted authorities.
