Awka — ANAMBRA State government has said that plans are afoot to upgrade Ekwulobia, the headquarters of Aguata local government area to an urban town.
Governor Peter Obi who disclosed this during the coronation and outing ceremony of the new traditional ruler of Ekwulobia, Igwe Emmanuel Onyeneke explained that government has started executing projects needed to change the face of the town.
Already, the state government has started the rehabilitation and re-equipping of the Ekwulobia General Hospital to gain accreditation for the training of professionals, while work on the male and female wards of the hospital has begun.
The governor, who noted the strategic importance of the community to the state, commended the people for the peaceful and successful election and coronation of their new traditional ruler which, he stated, has received the endorsement of the state government.
At Akwaeze, Obi urged the community to sustain the prevailing peaceful and harmonious co-existence in the area.
He explained that state government"s policy of empowering communities on development projects was to encourage them to be fully involved in the development of their areas, adding that his on-going visits to the various communities was to feel the heart-beat of the people and identify their problems with a view to solving them.
