Ghana: Kufuor Ushers Mills Into Jubilee House

6 January 2009

Just a few days before the inauguration of the newly elected President of Ghana, President J.A. Kufuor yesterday invited the President-elect, Prof. John Evans Atta Mills to the Golden Jubilee House.

The duo met at the Jubilee House, just after President Kufuor's last State of the Nation address in Parliament. According to the spokesperson of the Mills' Transition team, Ms Hanna Tetteh, President Kufuor's invitation was a return of the courtesy invitation that was extended to President Kufuor by former President J.J. Rawlings in 2001.

She said the meeting was to introduce Mills to the Jubilee House and deliberate about other issues. She explained that the meeting was held before January 7, since immediately after the inaugural ceremony, Prof. Mills is expected to begin work at the Jubilee House.

Sources told The Chronicle that the Presidential wing of the House was about to be completed to accommodate the incoming President.

Meanwhile, Prof. Mills has appointed Hon. Mahama Ayariga, the outgoing MP for Bawku Central, as the Presidential spokesperson, while Mr. James Bebako-Mensah, a former Cabinet Secretary in the second term of the NDC government under former President Jerry Rawlings, has also been named as Secretary to the President.
