A relatively new member of Somalia's interim federal parliament has been kidnapped by suspected insurgents, Radio Garowe reports.
MP Ahmed Abdi "Takil" was traveling by car from Baidoa towards Mogadishu, the capital, when suspected insurgents stopped his vehicle.
"The MP was detained while traveling somewhere inside Burhakaba district," said a well-informed source in Mogadishu who did not want to be named.
He said that fellow lawmakers received the report from Burhakaba locals.
MP Takil was identified as a new lawmaker, who has been a member of parliament for less than a month after replacing deceased MP Mohamed Ali Shire who died in Galkayo last year.
Islamist insurgents have repeatedly targeted Somali government officials, including the assassination of a lawmaker inside Baidoa last month.
