Cape Coast — The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr. Patrick Kwarteng Acheampong last Wednesday honoured eight distinguished police officers in Cape Coast for their dedication to duty.
The eight police officers arrested cocaine haul at Atabaadze Junction in the Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem Municipality and refused to take bribe of US$5,000, offered them by Mills Agoe Robertson, who is currently in police grips.
They received certificates and GH¢500 each as a sign of appreciation by the Police Administration.
The eight police officers are ASP Mr. Frederick Kojo Asare-Mensah, Inspector Oheneba Amoako Boateng, Inspector Johnson Gyebaah and Inspector Anthony Agyenim Aboagye. Others are Inspector David Yeboah, Sgt Alex Aboagye, Sgt Stephen Yalley and Constable Jacob Bawa.
Central Regional Commander, DCOP Akayire Kamparah, in a short remark to present the items on behalf of the IGP, noted that although the officers were duty bound to arrest the suspects, they could have taken the US$5,000 bribe offered to them.
DCOP Kamparah stated that the Police Service really appreciate their efforts and rewarded them accordingly, although the reward was not equal to the bribe they refused, in order to serve as morale booster for others.
The leader of the team, ASP Mensah dispelled claims that all police officers were corrupt and urged others to exhibit exemplary lives as police officers.
ASP Mensah therefore appealed to the public to give information on suspected criminals to enable the police discharge their duty effectively.
It would be recalled that this paper reported in its June 30 edition that Mills Agoe Robertson, a driver carrying 380 parcels of substances suspected to be cocaine was arrested on June 29 at Atabaadze Junction by a team of policemen detailed to the place for patrol duties.
The arrest was done under the then command of Mrs. Rose Bio Atinga, former Regional Police Commander who has been transferred to Accra.
