7 January 2009

Somalia — At least four government soldiers have been killed and two others wounded after two, heavy explosions targeted to government military base around Towfiiq area in Yaqshid district north Mogadishu on Wednesday, witnesses told Shabelle radio

Residents say the soldiers died after a roadside bomb hit government soldiers and Islamist insurgents then threw a hand grenade bomb to the soldiers.

The soldiers fired gunfire to many different directions but it has not been reported any casualties from the gunfire yet.

The government soldiers extort illegal money from the passenger buses that use the streets that connect Towfiq and Bakaro market in Mogadishu.

Islamist insurgents have been targeting roadside bombs and daily attacks against the Ethiopian and government soldiers in Mogadishu since the Ethiopian troops occupied Mogadishu.

Thousands of civilians have been killed and millions have been displaced from their homes in Mogadishu.
