Mbulelo Mabizela's arrival back at Chloorkop eight days after his teammates began training following the festive break, appears to have been the last straw for club chairman Patrice Motsepe.
The club announced today that the former Bafana Bafana captain has now been placed on the transfer list even though his contract is only set to expire in June.
Mabizela reported to Sundowns headquarters yesterday (Tuesday) and was immediately whisked off for a medical test.
A representative of his agents, Francesco Ferreri of ProSport International, also met with Sundowns' officials yesterday but no details of what was discussed or what terms the Brazilians are asking for their wayward defender have been disclosed.
Sundowns' spokesperson Mahlatse Mphahlele said that "no formal hearing" was held with the player whose latest bout of misbehaviour began during September when he went missing from a Bafana Bafana camp.
The player did another disappearing trick after the MTN Wafa Wafa final against Kaizer Chiefs a few weeks later.
Sources said he was in Pietermaritzburg and that he had been involved in an accident and damaged his new Chrysler.
Then, during early December he again surfaced in Pietermaritzburg. This was when the news broke that he had been arrested in city on a charge of drunken driving.
Mabizela appeared in court about a fortnight ago and was granted R500 bail. The hearing was then set for later this month, but the player did not return to the club and his whereabouts remained unknown, until he arrived back yesterday.
Mphahlele said the club is saddened that its attempts and initiatives to put Mabizela's football career back on track had not been successful.
