Instead of returning from the Christmas break unfit and 'slightly overweight', Bay United coach Khabo Zondo says his charges are lean and hungry.
"I feared they would return still in the holiday mood and out of touch, but they are motivated and in good form," he told the Herald newspaper.
Umlilo had their first training session on Saturday morning, followed by three more at the weekend.
Good news for the Port Elizabeth-based side is the return from injury of winger Siyabulela Songwiqi, who has recovered from a partial ligament tear of the knee, as well as the signing of Cameroonian striker Jean Njoh.
However, Bay are still awaiting the transfer clearance certificate of their new signing from his previous outfit, Air India Football Club, before he can start playing for Umlilo.
"The Premier Soccer League is arranging the clearance," said United spokesman Vuyo Mvoko. "It shouldn't be much of a problem though. We should have the clearance during the course of the week."
Mvoko added that no other signings had yet been made by Bay United since most club officials had only returned to work on Monday, but negotiations would be continuing.
Should Njoh's clearance be resolved before the end of the week, the pacy striker, together with Songwiqi, would be available for selection for the club's match against Bidvest Wits on Sunday at the EPRU Stadium.
Zondo also confirmed the appointment of Eddie 'Veza' Dyaloyi as his assistant and Narine Loock as the team's biokineticist.
Former assistant coach Jani Simulambo has been appointed to Dyaloyi's former position of reserve side coach.
