South Africa: Bennett to Handle Super Cup

8 January 2009

Johannesburg referee Daniel Bennett has been appointed to handle the African Super Cup match between Al Ahly of Egypt and the Tunisian club CS Sfaxien in Cairo on February 6.

Bennett will be assisted by the Bloemfontein-based pair of Enock Molefe and Toko Malebo, with Abdul Ibrahim as the fourth official despite the Cape Town referee's recent involvement in controversial decisions in the PSL.

The match is the annual match-up between the winners of the African Champions League and the African Confederation Cup.

Bennett's last major appointment was last year's African Champions League semifinal between eventual winners Al Ahly and Nigeria's Enyimba.

His latest assignment puts him in line for the panel for next year's African Nations Cup finals in Angola, which is now just 12 months away.

Al Ahly are seeking to win the Super Cup for a fourth time. Their opponents CS Sfaxien lost 2-1 to Tunisian compatriots Etoile Sahel in last year's Super Cup match.
