Nigeria: Six Teenagers Arrested for Kidnapping

Umuahia — Abia State police command had warned that anyone caught in the act of kidnapping or armed robbery will be made to face the full weight of the law irrespective of the perpetrators age.

Commissioner of Police, Abia State Command, Mr. Edgar Tam Nanakumo, stated this while parading six teenagers including a girl of about 15 years for alleged involvement in armed robbery and kidnapping.

Parading the suspects, the commissioner said the suspects were arrested at their hide-out at Mbutu Umuoko Village of Okporo Ahaba Autonomous community in Isiala Ngwa South Local Government area at 12.am.

Nana Kumo said those arrested include Onyebuchi Nwosu, Chimaobi Nwosu, Sylvanus Sunday, Chukwu Okechukwu Gabriel, Iheanyi Emerengwa and a girl, Nwanyi Eze, said to be the informant to one Ugochukwu alleged to be the owner of the guns recovered by the police in possession of the arrested suspects.

He assured Abians that the command will leave no stone unturned as regards to the fight against kidnapping and armed robbery and urged members of the public to continue to give useful information to the police to enable them flush out the hoodlums in the society.

According to the commissioner, items recovered from the hoodlums include; two military riffles with fully loaded magazines, one pump action riffle, one double barrel gun snatched from one Eugene Ndulie, a recently rescued kidnapped victim.

The suspects claimed to be students of Comprehensive Secondary School, Mgboko Amiri in Obingwa Local Government Area.

Answering questions from newsmen, the suspects, who confirmed that they were arrested at a place at about 2am, said they were their to charge their handsets while one of them, Chimaobi claimed that the guns were kept in his custody by one Ugochukwu who is based in Port Harcourt who assured him that the police would not suspect that an underaged boy can be in possession of arms.
