Lagos — President, Centre for the Rule of Law, Olasupo Ojo, said there are murderers and armed robbers in the Nigeria Police Force
He is, therefore, calling on the Federal Government to ensure sanity in the system.
Olasupo made this revelation on Wednesday while reacting to calls made by leader of the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB), Ralph Uwazuruike, who not only called for the re-arrest and prosecution of the policemen allegedly involved in the
murder of six Igbo boys in Apo, Abuja, but also issued an ultimatum of February 6, 2009 for the government to address the issue or face the consequence of its inaction.
He added: "For policemen under uniform to kill innocent civilians shows the level barbarism in the Nigeria Police. The police have been doing everything possible to kill that story.
"So, if it will require that we make the country ungovernable, I think it is worth it because what happened to the Apo six can happen to anybody anytime, anywhere.
"So it is up to the government, whether they will allow the law to take its cause and get those police prosecuted.
"Some policemen were allowed to escape and until now the police authorities said they cannot find them. Remember, the former President Olusegun Obasanjo, at a point, accused the police of harboring robbers."
Uwazuruike had on Tuesday, during the public presentation of his book titled: "Fundamental Principles of Non-violence," in Owerri gave the Federal Government a February 6, 2009 ultimatum for it to re-arrest and prosecute the policemen involved in the alleged murder of the six Igbo boys in Apo, Abuja or face the risk of having an ungovernable society.
According to Uwazuruike who read the riot act in Owerri during the presentation, "members of MASSOB would make Nigeria ungovernable if the Federal Government fails to actualise this legitimate demand.
"The Federal Government cannot discretely release criminals and murderers, while innocent members of MASSOB have remained incarcerated in various prisons across Nigeria for legitimately asking for independence."
