Nigeria: LG Procures 2000 Palm Seedlings for Sale to Farmers

Ideato North local government area of Imo State has procured over 2,000 improved palm seedlings for sale to farmers in the area during the forthcoming planting season.

The Transition Committee Chairman, Mrs. Ngozi E. Anyikwa, disclosed this to Vanguard after a routine inspection of the Agric Department of the local council.

Answering a question, Mrs. Anyikwa said that the palm seedlings would be sold at a subsidized rate to farmers and implored farmers in the council area to avail themselves of the opportunity to replace the ageing and aged palm trees in the farms.

Speaking also, the Supervisor for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Chief Chuks Kanu, explained that the specie of the palm seedlings is faster in reproduction when compared with others.

He expressed happiness about the sincere efforts of the local council administration towards the procurement of the palm seedlings, pointing out that it would go a long way in boosting the economy of the council area, the state and Nigeria.

Chief Kanu assured that the Agriculture and natural Resources department of the local council would liaise with farmers in the council area with a view to enhancing food production
