Lagos — People's Democratic Party (PDP) Chairman, Chief Vincent Ogbulafor, has said that there are lessons that Nigerians could learn from Ghanaian elections.
He told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Accra, that, "the speed, understanding and rancour free and fair elections are lessons to be learnt from Ghana."
"The fact that the election was won by the opposition in Ghana and John Atta Mills has been sworn in as president with speed and no court action is a lesson for us," he said.
Ogbulafor further explained that governance was all about "delivering democracy dividendsto the people and not ending elections in court years after being elected.
"He added that the opposition parties in Nigeria should" learn from the hardwork the opposition in Ghana put in to win the election."
"Those of us in Nigeria need to learn how democracy can operate swiftly and not years after elections, victors would now be sworn into office," Ogbulafor said.
"This means that immediately after elections, you swear in the winners and there will be no rancour and this is an understanding of what governance is all about," he said.
Ogbulafor also suggested that a time-frame be given to the tribunals immediately after the elections for them to conclude all litigations to allow the winners take their respective offices. said.
