Luanda — Luanda governor, Francisca do Espirito Santo, Thursday here laid a wreath by the statue of Angola's first and late president, Antonio Agostinho Neto, at the Independence Square, to salute the National Culture Day, January 8.
Following the programme of celebrations of the date, Francisca of the Espirito Santo visited the Luanda Military Hospital, to view the work of restoration of the paintings on that institution's wall.
Speaking to the press, the governor said that the laying of the wreath by the statue of Agostinho Neto is a homage to the first and late Angolan president that is a symbol of the national culture.
"Through this homage, we remember that culture is part of us, something that has to be present in our daily life", emphasized the governor.
To the governor, who is also a minister without portfolio, another important aspect in the National Culture Day is to transmit to the young generation the importance of the national culture, so that they can value "our culture, what we are, and we must transmit these values to
the youth".
In this regard, the governor said, art workshops are being set up in districts around Luanda, where the youths can learn to handle both modern and traditional music instruments.
As to the restoration of the wall paintings, the governor said it has a very special significance, as it represents an important part of the Angolan history.
