Malanje — Writer Jorge Macedo on Thursday considered the Marimba as a multifaceted instrument and of great dimension for the national culture, with highlight to its rhythms and ethno-musicological values, ANGOP has learnt.
The writer said so while delivering a lecture on the theme "Malanje Province Marimbas", meant to salute the January 08 holiday, National Culture Day.
Jorge Macedo explained that this instrument appeared centuries ago in the communities of Ambundu, in Calandula District, and Bondistas that comprises Cangandala District, in Baixa de Kassanje region.
"Calandula people became very popular for being good marimba players", he said, adding that it is an instrument that has a wooden keyboard, made of a strong cattle skin frame, a set of calabashes positioned under the keys for resonance.
According to him, Malanje marimbas rhythm has a pedagogical role, for example Kibalabala song, through which the culture gives emphasis to the wealth of the forming family.
The meeting was attended by the Malanje governor, Boaventura Cardoso, provincial directors, religious personalities, chieftains ad representatives of the Police and Armed Forces.
