Eritrea: Asmate Sub-Zone - New Micro-Dam Constructed in Era

Asmat — In line with the endeavors being made by the Anseba regional administration in collaboration with partners to ease potable water supply problem, a new micro-dam has been constructed in Era administrative area, Asmate sub-zone.

The Administrator of the area, Mr. Mohamed Hamid, indicated that the local inhabitants who used to travel for about 8 hours to fetch water that was not up to standard would now have access to potable water supply.

Likewise, the Administrator of Asmat sub-zone, Mr. Abubeker Mohammed Jimi'e, pointed out that as part of efforts to promote equitable social service in different parts of the country, more than 1,500 families who used to live in scattered places have been regrouped, and that they have already become beneficiaries of social services. Reports indicated that 3 micro-dams have already been constructed in the sub-zone which are playing significant role in providing potable water and promoting irrigation farming.

Era, one of the 8 administrative areas of Asmat sub-zone, is inhabited by over 3,000 people.
