Kampala — FORMER Big Brother Africa housemate, Maureen Namatovu, tied the knot with her longtime American fiancée, Taylor Garrett, on Saturday at Sacred Heart Cathedral, Lubaga.

The couple later hosted their guests to a tranquil reception at the Sheraton Hotel's poolside.

The wedding was a simpe affair with a few surprises to marvel at. The first surprise was delivered by the groom's father, Dr. Wilson Garrett, who chose to be his son's bestman!

The old man explained his decision: "When I married my wife, Janella, in 1974, she was 28 and I was 31 years old. Now my son (Taylor) is also 31 and his wife (Maureen) is 28!

When I first met my wife, I knew she was the right woman for me, and I am sure Maureen is the right woman for my son too," Dr. Wilson said amidst cheers from guests.

And throughout his speech, Dr. Wilson talked a lot about his solid love for his son. "Me and my wife love Taylor very much and we wish him all the best," he said.

Every speaker seemed to point out Taylor's generosity, the very reason he has been a social worker since he graduated from law school. His UNHCR boss, Jeffrey Wadley, described him as "one of the most extraordinary people I have met".

"He is a very caring and a special human being who deserves a wonderful marriage," Wadley said, adding that he is certain Taylor will have a happy marriage with his Ugandan wife.

One of his friends, Damian, said he knows Taylor as a very brilliant lawyer, which means he has a wide sense of justice. "So with an intelligent woman like Maureen, I am sure this marriage will be peaceful," he said.

Garrett Senior explained his son's big heart: "He shares a heritage from his mother, who has a great care for other human beings. He has always wanted to do something for humanity."

It is as well that such impressive testimonies left a mark on Maureen's father, Ambassador William Matovu. "I thank Taylor for choosing my daughter as his wife," Matovu said.

In attendance were Buganda Kingdom officials, the Katikkiro, Eng JB Walusimbi and Ambassador Emmanuel Ndawula. Saxophonist Isaiah Katumwa performed.
