Luanda — The chief of Staff of Angolan Armed Forces (FAA), gen. Francisco Pereira Furtado, Friday in Luanda, reiterated his organ's commitment to assisting the National Airforce (FAN) modernisation effort.
The officer said so while addressing the closing of the cycle of conferences held to hail FAN's 33rd anniversary, on January 21.
According to gen. Furtado, the assistance is aimed at changing the "gloomy situation" prevailing in the airforce as a result of material, technical and social weathering caused by long period of war and post-conflict idling.
The chief of staff said as well that by turning 33 years of existence, the airforce has a long experience to carry out a deep diagnosis of its situation and take measures for a change.
He appealed to the officers attending the cycle of conferences to take prevention of accident as everyone's task, both in the air and land, during air space surveillance and control missions.
Gen. Furtado also recommended the FAN command to continue preparing its staff for a change of thinking in order to put an end to negative and irresponsible attitudes, neglect and spirit of adventure that has caused serious human and material losses.
On the other hand, he praised the cycle of conferences saying they are important for FAN to keep pace with the development of new technologies and follow the procedures and international air navigation norms.
The cycle of conferences tackled such topics as national airforce and the challenges of accident prevention, possibility of radio localisation, role of self-esteem in the reinforcement of vocation and pilots professional and technical skills.
The National Airforce was founded on January 21, 1976, proclaimed by the first and late Angolan president, António Agostinho Neto.
