Nigeria: Amesi Town FC Lifts IG Cup in Aguata

Curtain was drawn in the first edition of the Inspector General of Police (IG) Cup organised by Chief Jude Ezechukwu in Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State with Amesi Town FC emerging the winner.

Amesi Town defeated Oraeri 2-0 in the pulsating final to go home with the N3 million cash prize and the giant trophy while Oraeri got a consolation of N2 million. The third placed team, Igboukwu went away with N1 million.

The highlight of the closing ceremony, according to the secretary of the Local Organising Committee, Barrister Iyke Igbokwe, was the conferment of traditional title of Okosisi Na Echendo (the big tree that protects Aguata) on the Inspector General, Sir Mike Okiro by all the traditional rulers of old Aguata Union.

About 20 royal fathers of old Aguata comprise Orumba north and Orumba South Local Government Area was on hand to confer the chieftaincy title on Sir Okiro.

Among the dignitaries that graced the conferment on the IG was the Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, his predecessor, Dr. Chris Ngige while the AIG Zone 9 Umuahia, Olusegun Efuntayo, represented the IG. Others were the Commissioner of Police, Interpol, Mr Ezechukwu, the Commissioner of Police, Anambra State, Abbas Mohammed, DCP Enugu, Mr Ogugua, DCP Abia, Force Headquarters, AC Ojukwu, Nnewi Police Command, AC Yarkadi and the Aguata Police Command, S.S. Dang.
