The proposed Gamji Exhibition and Arewa Festival of Arts and Culture which aim at show-casing the rich cultural heritage of the North, will now hold between January 28 and February 2, the Managing Director of Gamji Events and Conferences Nigerian Ltd Musa Gado has said. According to him, the Arewa Festival of Arts and Culture, which was billed for December 10 and 15 last year, was postponed because of unforeseen circumstances. Gado said the earlier date coincided with the Sallah festivities and other national events and for this reason, the festival had to be postponed.
"Around that time, most emirs and chiefs were still busy receiving the usual Sallah homage and it will be unfair for us to expect the royal fathers to grace the occasion and the festival will not be complete without their presence because they are the custodians of our rich cultural heritage," Musa Gado said. In addition, the event coincided with the EFCC seminar. "So we had no option but to postpone the event", Musa Gado further said.
Alhaji Shehu Shagari, according to the organizers, is expected to chair the event, while Sultan Muhammad Sa'ad Abubakar will be the royal father of the day. Alhaji Maitama Sule who is the Guest Speaker, will give a lecture on "The Gamji Legacy". All northern governors are expected to attend, including all National Assembly members of northern origin, House Speakers of the 19 northern states as well as Justices from Northern Nigeria.
According to the organizers, the five day event will hold at the Kaduna International Trade Fair Complex and it aims at bringing northern states together for stronger ties. In addition, it is hoped that through such festivals, peace and unity will be fostered and the peoples of the North, they added. The proposed exhibition also seeks to foster trade amongst northern states on the one hand and the entire nation at large, the organizers also said.
