Eritrea: Effective Soil and Water Conservation Activities Carried Out in She'ib Sub-Zone

Effective soil and water conservation activities at more than 5 million Nakfa were carried out last year in She'ib sub-zone, according to Mr. Temesgen Gebrezgi, branch head of the Ministry of Agriculture in the sub-zone.

Accordingly, a number of embankments and water catchments have been put in place in Wekiro, Gedged and She'ib and are playing significant role in promoting agricultural development, he explained.

Noting that there exist over 7,000 hectares of suitable farmland in the sub-zone, Mr. Temesgen pointed out that out these, and 6,000 hectares have been put under cultivation. He went on to say that selected seeds have been extended to about 300 farmers in Wekiro and that training has been offered to 25 staff members of the branch office in different agricultural fields.
