The posts of suspended Ministry of Education officials, Mosoma Kgotla and his two deputies Bontle Menyatso and Cosmetic Molebatsi, have not been filled.

The Department of Student Placement officials were suspended amid allegations of misuse of office in November last year to make way for investigations by the Directorate on Corruption and Economic Crime.

Permanent Secretary at the education ministry, Ruth Maphorisa, says: "We are aware that the department needs a director and we are doing all we can so that the investigations by the Directorate on Corruption and Economic Crime are completed quickly".

She added: "With the ongoing investigations, a lot of things have to be put in place". Maphorisa also said there was no communication breakdown since Kgotla was suspended.

"When I moved to the post of PS, I handed the responsibility of caretaker to another deputy director who will be dealing with all the duties that the director dealt with," Maphorisa said.

The department is charged with the responsibility of providing financial assistance to pre-service, post senior secondary education and training through the grant/loan scheme.

The department also administers scholarships to students on training. It currently administers over 90 percent of the students at the University of Botswana, Botswana College of Agriculture, Institute of Health Sciences, Secondary Colleges of Education, Primary Colleges of Education, Botswana Accountancy College, Botswana Institute of Administration and Commerce, Roads Training Centre, Vocational Training.
