Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) on Friday said oil workers in the country are geared for a showdown with the Federal Government over the suspension of international management training programmes and reduction of international travel subsidy for members by 50 per cent.

PENGASSAN, in a statement issued and signed by its President, Babatunde Oguns, and General Secretary, Bayo Olowoshile, stressed that the world is now a global village where ideas, vision on both technical and human resources related issues are exchanged, "so the circular from the Federal Government on international training programmes is unacceptable."

It read, "Nigeria's export of crude oil and gas is under threat, following the Federal Government's suspension of training programmes and reduction of international travel and transport by 50 per cent and we, therefore, call for the immediate reversal of the policy or risk industrial disharmony in the Nigerian oil and gas industry.

"We are constrained to react and prepare for a showdown because of the grave consequences this circular would have on our members and indeed, the oil and gas industry, if such is implemented to the letter" it added.

The oil workers' association contended that when the oil and gas business and its technology, are appraised today by international standards and specifications, the dominant players and operators are multinational and trans-national corporations.
