The Kora All — Africa Music Awards which was scheduled to take place on December 6 and then pushed to December 27 2008 was again postponed to April 11 this year.
The prestigious Pan African music awards function was postponed due to the ongoing dispute between the Cross River State government and the organising commitee of the Kora- All Africa awards. As you can recall, the Kora awards bash was initially scheduled to take place in December at the Tinapa Business Resort in Calabar. However, the organisers tried to pull a fast one by moving the event from Calabar to Lagos, after the Cross River State government had signed an exclusive five-year hosting deal with them. Kora is the first Pan-African music awards which is internationally recognized. Founded in 1994 by Ernest Adjovi, who now serves as Executive Producer, Kora was first broadcast in 1996 to 45 countries.
Today, Kora is the only non-sporting event broadcast live in Africa, Europe and Asia. 2008 Kora Awards nominees from East Africa include Susan Kerunen and all-girl singing group Blu*3 from Uganda who are competing for the US$1 million and Micheal Ross who falls in another category. Other nominees include Redsan from Kenya who was nominated in the best Ragga artist/ group category and A Star also from Kenya nominated in the best Hip-Hop artist/ group category. The best group or artist will walk away with US$1 million cash prize.
