Kampala — Fred Badda was declared winner after trouncing his nearest opponent, Prof. Muyanda Mutebi.
The Like most by-elections in Buganda, the Bujumba by-election was dominated by two politcal parties, NRM and DP. His main rival in the by-election was a Prof. Muyanda Mutebi.
Unlike the contest in Sembabule, his victory in Bujumba was so convincing that very few people can dare say he rigged.
He was born to the late Expedito Kasozi, a teacher in the Bumanji and Noella Nassejje. He joined Bumanji Primary School and later Bukalasa Seminary.
"I am a staunch Catholic and I was bent on becoming a priest," he says. This did not happen though because, he opted to pursue a certificate in agriculture at Rakai Agriculture College and later a diploma in the same field which he attained from Bukalasa Agriculture College in Luweero
Badda had various advantages over his opponents. At 44, he was the youngest in the race which made him a favourite among the youth.
He has worked on these islands as an agriculture extension worker and was a district farmers coordinator. He was an assistant district coffee officer for six years and the assistant agriculture officer Kalangala district. A position he held for three years.
He attained a degree in community based development from Nkumba University and has completed a master's degree in the same field.
Badda, at one time, was a lay leader (leader of religious believers) for Bumanji parish in Kalangala and later in Kitovu parish.
He was also among the very first national youth delegates, who worked with the former state minister Nsangi Kakembo and the Sembabule LC5 chairman, Herman Ssentongo.
Badda is proud of the 16 years he has used to work in Kalangala. "I understand the people's queries because I worked with them," he says.
Unlike the 2001 and 2006 MP election, which he won by small margins, he won this by-election by a landslide and credits this win to the fact that the President was involved in the campaign process.
Other politicians like the former MP Mulindwa Birimumaso supported and offered a helping hand.
"I lay my plan on having a very clean campaign and successfully articulated what I was going to do to ensure growth and development in the region," he said.
