Uganda: High Court Queries ADF Rebel Suspects

12 January 2009

Kampala — High court judge Eldad Mwangusya has directed the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) to explain whether the six Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) treason suspects, who were granted amnesty, are still needed for trial.

The six were part of eight ADF suspects who include two women. While the suspects who include Wahab Zisanga, Abdul Rahaman Nalulu Wabwire, Yakub Lukman, Bashir Mustafa Agaba, Saad Ihanga and Hassan Isingoma Zakaria were granted amnesty, Zubedah Biiraone was released on bail and Aziza Turigye is still being held by the Police on other charges, according to the state attorney, Collines Acellam.

"The DPP should ascertain whether they are still needed for trial," the judge directed on Wednesday.

Mwangusya is currently conducting a criminal session in which a file containing the eight ADF treason suspects had been put back on the list of the cases for trial.
