Nigeria: Attempt to Kidnap Rita Lori-Ogbebor Fails

CHIEF (Mrs) Rita Lori-Ogbebor yesterday survived a kidnap bid from the hands of some Itsekiri hoodlums who trailed her from Warri river to her Ajigba home town and carted away two outboard engine Passport 19 speedboat valued at over N10million.

Narrating her ordeal to newsmen in Warri yesterday, Chief Rita Lori-Ogbebor who is the Irojowo of Warri Kingdom said since she came into town she has been engaged in the settlement of disputes in various Itsekiri communities where she was invited to mediate, saying that "I know my truthfulness in handling these cases has really offended some self acclaimed tin-gods".

According to her, her boat got to the landing jetty where she quickly disembarked to safety with the aide of her security operatives while the hoodlums chased away all other members of entourage and carted away the two speed boats.

She further revealed that even boats that were coming to her rescue were not spared by the hoodlums who also seized them.

The visibly furious Chief Rita Lori-Ogbebor told journalist that she went to the riverine Ajigba community to supervise some major projects she was executing there that would create jobs for the people and bring smiles to their faces when the ugly incident occurred, stressing that "she is very ashamed that some misguided Itsekiri youths could allow themselves to be used for such shameful act and promise to deal ruthlessly with the situation where youths no longer take instructions from their elders in Itsekiri communities.

While revealing the identity of one of the allege kidnappers whose name she gave as one Renneth, she said the suspect made a tactical blunder by parking his car by the Ugbuwangue waterside from where they took boat to execute their evil mission, adding that Police from "A" Division Warri has already toed the car away to their station.

He blamed the incidence of unbridled youth restiveness and insubordination to elders and constituted authorities in Itsekiri land to a wealthy youth who she claim now use his wealth to plant boys in all communities to cause disaffection even as these boys in collaboration with some elders of easy virtues now terrorize everyone with impunity.
