Kampala — The Council for East and Central African Football Associations (Cecafa) has started the new-year on a good note with the acquisition of a co-sponsor for the 2009 Kagame Club Championship.
Cecafa Secretary General Nicholas Musonye disclosed to Times Sport last night that they have already negotiated with a sponsor to help inject monies that will help cater for transport and accommodation for teams that will take part in the Kagame Club championship.
The Cecafa assembly which convened on December 30, at Hotel Equatorial in Kampala selected Uganda to host this year's edition.
"We are working very hard and bringing many football loving sponsors on board. The beauty about it is that the sponsors are eager to see football in the East and Central region develop further," said an excited Musonye.
Although he refused to reveal details of which company it could be, he said the press will be informed when the deal is finally signed.
"We have discussed all the modalities and all that is remaining is putting pen to paper for a binding agreement," he said.
Rwanda President Paul Kagame, who is very passionate about sports and football in particular, has been supporting the Kagame Club championship with an annual input of US$60,000 towards prize money.
Kenya's Tusker who beat URA of Uganda in last year's edition are the defending champions. Rwanda will be represented by Atraco.
