On Tuesday 13 January 2008, MONUC made an official contribution of educational material valued at $12,460 to the National Arts Institute in Kinshasa. The contribution of computers and school furniture, which was coordinated by MONUC's Western Brigade's Ghanaian battalion, will benefit 400 students and staff at the high level institution.
Through the project, which is part of MONUC's Quick Impact Projects (QUIPS) programme, the school will benefit from enhanced study and working conditions for both students and staff, with the allocation of two computers, one printer and 200 chairs.
MONUC Western Brigade deputy commander Colonel Harzi Mohsen said the aim of the contribution was to aid an institution such as the National Arts Insitute, which he said had an "important role to play in the training of young people for the future."
The National Arts Institute Director thanked MONUC for their contribution, which "showed their fraternity and solidarity with the people of the DRC."
As a gesture of thanks, MONUC officers were presented with gifts, which was followed by music and singing from the school choir and orchestra.
