A LEADING Member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the 2008 national Campaign Director of the NPP, Dr. Kofi Konadu Apraku, has denied ever being chased by the party's Presidential candidate to account for monies disbursed for the purposes of campaigning for the December 2008 elections.
He said the allegations were totally baseless, unfounded and incredible; and were only meant to tarnish his image and create hostility against him, the flag bearer and the party gurus.
Dr. Kofi Apraku described the media rumours which claimed that Nana Akufo-Addo was demanding accounts for over billions of cedis given to him as outrageous and complete falsehood.
According to the former Minister of Trade and Industry, the allegations were of a sinister motive to drag his hard won reputation into the mud. He asked members of the party to completely treat the report with a pinch of salt, and laid claim to ulterior motives meant to create disaffection against him, within the party and the country at large.
The immediate past NPP legislator said it was untenable and incredible for some disgruntled elements to put a spin on any information and to create bad blood between him and the flag bearer, as well as the top echelons of the party.
In a press statement to deny media reports, he urged all party foot-soldiers to disregard the allegations and to work hard for the party to be returned to power at the next elections in 2012, stating that the goodwill of Ghanaians enjoyed by the NPP is still there.
"I wish to state emphatically that there is no merit or an iota of truth in the report. It was just a mere propaganda meant to smear my good self and to bring my hard-won reputation into disrepute. I therefore urge all supporters of the NPP and the party functionaries to ignore the allegations and throw it into the dustbin because it has no basis.'
In his statement, Dr. Apraku, hinted to resorting to the law court to clear his image if it becomes necessary. "I believe in the rule of law and it is important that I take steps to clear my image. I will not sit down unconcern for some unscrupulous people to destroy me in the name of politics. At the appropriate time, I will decide to go to court to seek a redress."
The NPP National Campaign Director appealed to the media to be circumspect in their report and that they should not allowed themselves to be lured in concocting stories which has no truth.
"I am shocked to read that my unavailability has prompted Nana Addo to allegedly deploy some goons to trail me and smoke me out. This is outrageous and baseless. In fact, I was in a meeting with the Nana Addo on Sunday, as we all planned his National Thanks giving tour."
Dr. Apraku stressed that his life was never in danger as claimed by the reports in the media and contended that the allegations which were meant to create rift between him and the party members will backfire.
He, however, admonished the rank and file of the party to remain resolute and not to fall for the tricks aimed at dividing the front of the party.
