Mbanza Kongo — The deputy-governor of the northern Zaire province for organisation and technical works, Rogério Eduardo Zabila, Tuesday called on health experts to redouble efforts toward combat against the great endemic diseases either in the country in general and in the province in particular
Rogério Zabila launched this appeal at the opening session of the II broad consultative council of the provincial health department of Zaire, taking place in the provincial capital city, Mbanza Kongo.
According to him, despite having recorded decline in the cases of malaria across the province, the prevailing rate of the disease still continue worrying the health authorities.
"The reduction in malaria rate is attributed to the strategies ranging from distribution of impregnated mosquito nets to pregnant women and children as well as the administration of the new therapy (Coartem)", noted the official, who also voiced worry about the combat to HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis.
During the two-day event, started Tuesday, the participants will discuss topics related to the epidemiological and health framework in Zaire province in 2008 and outline new strategies for the current year.
