Lagos — Bayelsa United might have beaten Enyimba in the league this season however, the former African champions are adamant not to allow a repeat, through on the transfer scene.
The current fight according to the club is in respect of the manner Bayelsa snatched goalkeeper Emmanuel Fabiyi from them with out proper clearance as stipulated by players' transfer rules. Speaking to THISDAYSports from Aba on phone, club media officer Tonex Chukwu said Fabiyi remains their player even though he is now with Bayelsa, his former club.
"We cleared Fabiyi from them properly when we needed a goalkeeper. He thus became our player but recently, they came for him and we requested for N4.5 million in transfer fee. We did not hear anything from them until we were told that he has been registered for the season. We have lodged an official complaint and demand that they either pay or return Fabiyi to us."
However, Bayelsa officials are claiming otherwise. Though they acknowledge that the goalkeeper is with them, he was neither registered for the league nor will be part of their club's continental campaign. Club spokesman, Avi Ebi said Fabiyi's return does not make him Bayelsa player.
"He is training with us and enjoys our facilities because he is familiar with us, being a former player. He has said he is tired of playing for Enyimba and that he wants to return to us. He said he has not been paid for the past six months. We contacted Enyimba over his availability and they confirmed that he is up for sale. They demanded for N4.5 million and we said the fee is too much for a goalkeeper and at mid season. Contrary to reports, Fabiyi is not registered by us for any of our campaigns. We accept that he is still an Enyimba player but when we are ready to pay for him, we will negotiate how to make the payment. We are surprised to hear the accusation flying round and remain committed to the rules."
Attempts to hear the goalkeeper's side of the story was in vain as no one volunteered to give hint about reaching him in person.
