Nigeria: Sambo Donates Fire Engine to ABU

Kaduna — Kaduna State Governor, Namadi Sambo has donated a fire engine to the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria to enhance prompt response to fire outbreak. This is coming on the heels of the recent fire outbreak that engulfed the library of the Kongo campus of the university and completely destroyed it.

Sambo, an alumnus of the university, who last year donated about N10 million to the school for the accreditation of the Department of Architecture, promised to always support the school, describing education as the basis and foundation for alleviating poverty in the state and Nigeria as a whole.

While encouraging other alumni of the school to come to the aid of ABU, Sambo said: "other alumnus of this great school have the means to lift this school to greater heights. So I want to appeal to them, wherever they may be in this country and outside, to take the interest of this school to their heart and let them support it in whatever way possible."

The governor further requested the school authority to provide fire extinguishers in all the school's classrooms and hostels as a way of quickly responding to any fire outbreak.

The Vice chancellor, Prof. Shehu Abdullahi, who received the vehicle on behalf of the school, thanked the governor for the donation and informed him that based on his earlier donation, the Architect Department now has full accreditation. He promised the governor that the vehicle would be of use, not only to the ABU community, but also the Zaria community as a whole.

The Governing Council of the university had requested for the vehicle, when it paid a courtesy call on the governor at Sir Kashim Ibrahim House, to which the governor directed the State Emergency Management Agency to get a modern fire fighting vehicle for the institution.
