Freetown — A licensed auctioneer for uncleared and unclaimed goods (vehicles only) is said to have flouted order by Vice President Samuel Sam-Sumana to handover a vehicle to owner Alhaji Sheriff Alghali who returned to the country from the USA.

Alghali alleged that Alhaji Alim Awoko Sesay illegally and fraudulently auctioned and bought his vehicle, valued at US$ 35,000.

He said he presented his case to the Vice President who later summoned them to a meeting in a bid to settle the impasse.

"The VP stated that he will make sure that the matter is taken care off. This is not good for the party's image-the All Peoples Congress (APC)," Alghali quoted the VP saying.

"However, after looking deeply into the matter, VP concluded and ordered that Awoko return my car, which he (Awoko), agreed to do. Unfortunately, Awoko later changed his mind and told me that he is not going to give me my car and I can take him anywhere and nothing will come out of it," Alghali wrote in a letter addressed to President Koroma.

He said Awoko's attitude reminds him of late Siaka Stevens regime where to be corrupt was a virtue while to be honest was a crime.

"Sir, can you see what you can do to stop this type of attitude? As an auctioneer, how can he sell back to himself/ how can he under price for his own personal interest?" Alghali asked.

When contacted, Alhaji Alim Awoko Sesay told Concord Times that he was not ordered by the vice president to give the car back to Alghali, noting that he was asked by Sam-Sumana to find a suitable solution to the problem.

"I told the vice president that I will investigate the matter. The owner of the vehicle is Ibrahim Kamara of 16 Easton Street," he said.

He said according to law, any vehicle that was not collected from the Quay after 90 days must be auctioned.

Press officer to the vice president Andrew Collier said, "The vice president did not order Awoko to give the vehicle to Alghali as alleged. People are using the name of the VP to impersonate."
