Angola: ICTs Development Marks Science And Technology Sector

13 January 2009

Luanda — Government officials, population, investors and possible national and foreign investors know that the fight against poverty and hunger is linked to the development of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), throughout the country.

Having into account the challenges outlined by the Angolan government, mainly after achieving peace in April 2002, as well as the goals of the millennium, aimed at fighting against hunger and poverty, among other purposes, the ICTs are now considered to be a way to eradicate this ill that hits most of the world population.

In this regard, some officials, mainly those who are linked to the institutions related to technological issues, are unanimous in affirming the necessity of an institutional synchronisation in the economic and social organisation of the national territory concerning the ICTs.

Throughout 2008, the Ministry of Science and Information Technologies had as performance priorities the building of its infrastructures, outlining the legal support framework to the Scientific Research Activities, as well as the creation of Development Programmes and Projects.

For the implementation of the scientific activity in the country without any hurdles, it was published various Law-Decrees that regulate the functioning of the institution.

Among the published legal diplomas, it is included the Reviewed Supplementary Agreement which discusses the Provision of Technical Assistance by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the African Regional Agreement of Collaboration for Research, Development and Training in the Area of Science and Nuclear Technology, among others.

All works carried out by that governmental department and other institutions and government partners, as well as the speeches and actions that were assessed during the years, were only aimed at improving people's living standard, by fighting against hunger and reducing poverty, through real actions of the scientific research centres.
