Angola: Methodist Church Bishop Considers 2008 As Favourable

The bishop of the United Methodist Church, Gaspar Domingos, considered last Tuesday in Luanda that the year 2008 was favourable for the conclusion of most of the scheduled activities for the congregation and the society itself.

According to the bishop, who was speaking to ANGOP about the activities balance of the United Methodist Church last year, the plans were based on the activities carried out inland, such as the consolidation of the temple's internal work, construction of houses for pastors, support in literacy work and help the communities affected by the rains.

The cleric also said that United Methodist Church contributed to the construction of some schools already inaugurated. In the fisheries sector, it was supplied a few boats in some communities, assistance to people who live in the remote areas and it also handed over means of transport to pastors.

Regarding the plans for 2009, Gaspar Domingos said that his church intends, through a programme, to improve the financial condition of the temple.

The cleric also highlighted that in collaboration with the Angolan government, in 2009 the United Methodist Church is available to work in the mobilisation of the christians, mainly for the presidential elections.

Concerning the work on minds pacification, the bishop stressed that it is a work that needs to be done daily, considering that the war brought about separations and mistrust.

The United Methodist Church was founded on 18 March 1885, and it is based in various countries of the world. In Angola it has approximately 300 local churches and about 220,000 members.
