Nigeria: Students Get Senator's Overseas Scholarship

The Senator representing Katsina Central Alhaji Ibrahim Idah has offered N650,000 scholarship to three students of the Katsina State University to study in Lome, Togo.

The three are undergraduate students of French Language in the university, and were required to undertake a seven-month study tour in any French speaking country.

Idah, who presented the cheques to the university's vice chancellor in Katsina, said the benefiting students from his constituency risked abandoning their course and this was why he intervened with the funding.

He said the support was part of his resolve to assist in educational development in his constituency and complement government effort in the provision of social services to the people.

The vice chancellor Professor Abdullahi Mustapha urged other capable individuals in the state to emulate the legislator and support the university.

He said the university receives about N250 million annually from the state government for staff development out of which 20 lecturers will this year undergo various training in post graduate studies.

Idah has also donated about N1.5 million to some communities in Jibiya Local Government Area for the construction and renovation of community mosques.
