Nigeria: Stay Away From Jang - Shariah Council

Jos — The friction between Muslim organisations and the Jonah David Jang administration in Plateau State yesterday hit another sour note when the President of the Supreme Council for Shariah in Nigeria, Dr.Ibrahim Datti Ahmed warned all muslims to boycott the Ajibola Committee set up to look into the Jos Crisis.

Datti Ahmed, while addressing the National Press in Kaduna yesterday said, "considering the extent of religious and ethnic polarisation in Plateau state and the ignoble role of the state governor in the crisis, his fanatical xenophobic antecedents and the composition (5 Christian allies of the Governor, with only 2 Muslims), we believe there is absolutely no hope for justice or fairness, and more importantly, no prospect of identifying the actual ring leaders to face the full force of the law". This statement is coming hours after the Plateau State Governor, Jonah Jang, on inaugurated a 6-member judicial panel of inquiry on the November 28 crisis in parts of Jos North Local Government Area of the state.

The governor took time to describe his relationship with President Umaru Yar'Adua saying that he has the greatest respect for the person and office of the President.

"I have great respect for the personality of the President and we are therefore not in any way confronting the Federal Government as we are proud members of the Nigerian nation," Jang said.

He expressed regret that the latest incident, which led to the loss of hundreds of lives and destruction of millions of naira worth of property occurred at a time the state government was embarking on developmental projects to positively transform the state and enhance its potentials as a tourist state.

Jang said that many of those killed were contributing positively in one way or another to the development of the state, stressing that he was elected governor of all the people on the Plateau irrespective of tribe or religious inclinations.

The governor also explained that he appreciated the efforts of the Federal Government to restore peace to Plateau State.

He assured the citizens that the setting up of the commission was not to witch hunt any one but to unravel the truth about the crisis and bring perpetrators to justice. The commission, he said is also to ascertain the extent of damage and recommend ways of avoiding future crises.

Jang rationalised that as someone who fought the war to keep Nigerian one, he also believes in the sanctity and survival of Nigerian and promised to implement the recommendations of the commission.

Chairman of the commission, Prince Bola Ajibola (SAN), described the November 28 mayhem as "very sad".

If so with this statement by Dr.Ibrahim Datti Ahmed ,"...warned all muslims to boycott the Ajibola Committee set up to look into the Jos Crisis."proves Danfodios statement.
