The equipment was offered to some disabled people and organisations in charge of the disbled last Wednesday.
AFrench non governmental organisation known as Aide France-Cameroon pour l'insertion des handicaps, AFCIH, last Wednesday January 14 , at the Regional Delegation for social Affairs in Yaounde, offered a consignment of equipment to both handicap people and some organisations who carter for handicap people in Cameroon.
The equipment included 60 wheel chairs, 22 blankets, 2 kinesics therapy tables, 34 hospital beds, a medical bed, TV sets, walking sticks for blind people, chairs, clothes and shoes. There were equally spare parts for the equipment offered.
Apart from the wheel chairs which were directly handed to the handicap people, the rest of the equipment was channelled through organisations that take care of handicap people including;
Foyer Daniel Le Roufignac which takes care of blind people in Nlongkak-Yaounde, the National Centre for the Rehabilitation of Handicap People in Etoug-ebe-Yaounde and the Centre La Colombe.
Speaking during the ceremony, the president of AFCIH, Alain Scheir, said the idea came from his wife, Cameroonian born Leclerc Martine, who highlighted the fact that handicap people suffer in Cameroon whereas such equipment was being thrown away in France.
They therefore decided to do something for the handicap people in Cameroon. They made a first trip to Cameroon to look for partners through whom they could channel the equipment.
AFCIH regroups French and Cameroonian citizens concerned with the plight of handicap people in Africa. Their objective is to enable handicap people regain some autonomy, dignity and right to happiness.
