Kampala — THE First Lady and Ruhaama MP, Mrs. Janet Museveni, has cautioned her constituent not to politicise development programmes.
Mrs. Museveni, who was on a tour of her constituency over the weekend, said development was for everyone and it was not right to think politically when tackling poverty.
"Our mission is one, to get rid of poverty, not to win the next election. Do not talk about means of winning the next elections," she said.
The First Lady was addressing farmers of Rukoni sub-county.
She also visited Nyakyeera Co-operative Enterprise and commended the farmers on their good work.
According to a press release from Sate House, Mrs. Museveni expressed concern that many Ugandans were living in abject poverty and had accepted it as their way of life.
"Uganda is my country and it is when its people are fine that the country will progress," she said.
Mrs. Museveni called for hard work and advised residents to shun laziness.
"I have worked closely with ordinary people, the poor of the poor, and I have seen them rise to greatness and overcome poverty. Do not lose hope," she encouraged.
She reminded the residents that the wealth of every nation is its people.
